Fall of Rome Wins Game of the Year at Origins!
Today at the 31st Annual Origins International Games Expo in Columbus, Ohio, before an audience of an estimated 14,000 avid gamers, Fall of Rome was named Game of the Year for multiplayer online games (PBM).
Fall of Rome was chosen from a strong field of finalists for the honor. For designer Rick McDowell, Fall of Rome is his second Origins Game of the Year honor. The award credits are shared with lead software engineer Fletcher Dunn.
Said McDowell, “Fletch deserves so much credit: he made all the technology choices and created the GUI that has been instrumental to the success of Fall of Rome. Senior programmer Matt Butler has been brilliant as well in making our game what it has become.”
Asked why he thought Fall of Rome received the nod for Game of the Year honors from the Academy, McDowell said, “Fall of Rome combines RPG, war game and strategy game qualities in one multiplayer online game. It’s got something for most gaming tastes. We are thrilled to have been so honored and it lets us know our two years in development have been recognized as resulting in a terrific game.”
